Referrals
Referrals, handled in writing and with care
I'm Travis Old, a broker with Horizon Realty Group. I take referrals from licensed agents, send my own clients to agents I trust, and introduce lenders without anyone paying anyone. Pick the path that fits.

How a referral works
- You send the referralYour client has agreed to hear from me. Use the form below or call me.
- Our firms sign an agreementThe fee and the terms for this referral go in writing, firm to firm, signed electronically by both firms before I start.
- I take care of your clientI contact them, work with them as I would any client, and keep you posted when they say I may.
- The fee is paid at closingPaid firm to firm as the agreement says, with a copy of the settlement statement for your records.

Received
Thank you for the referral.
Your reference is on its way by email. I'll send the referral agreement for both firms to sign before I contact your client.
Received
Thank you.
I check every agent's licence before I add them to my list, then I'll be in touch.

Thank you.
I check every lender's NMLS record before adding them to the list I share with buyers.
Received
Thank you.
I'll send you two or three lenders to talk to. Compare them and choose the one you like.
Received
Thank you.
I'll look for an agent where you're headed and send you their details. You decide whether to work with them.
Lender introductions, with nothing in return
When a buyer asks, I introduce two or three lenders and the buyer chooses, and nobody pays anybody in either direction. I don't take loan applications or quote rates; the lender does that.
Terms at a glance
- Fee
- Agreed in writing in each referral agreement. There is no published rate.
- Term
- 12 months from the introduction.
- Who is paid
- Firm to firm. Affiliated brokers are paid through their broker-in-charge.
- Who qualifies
- Licensed real estate brokers with an active licence, in North Carolina or another state.
- Existing relationships
- A client already working with Horizon Realty Group before your introduction is not a referral.
- Fair housing
- Every agreement carries a fair-housing clause, and every client is served under the Fair Housing Act.
Fees are paid only between licensed firms. I can't pay anyone who isn't licensed, and I never pay or take anything of value from a lender.
Questions
What is your referral fee?
It is agreed in writing for each referral, firm to firm, before I contact your client. I do not publish a rate.
How long does a referral last?
12 months from the day you introduce the client. If they buy or sell with me in that time, the agreement applies.
I'm licensed in another state. Can you pay my firm?
Yes. A licensed broker in another state can receive a referral fee through their firm, as long as they do no brokerage work while physically in North Carolina.
Can a past client get a referral fee?
No. North Carolina law doesn't allow a broker to pay a referral fee or anything of value to someone who isn't licensed, past clients included. I send a handwritten thank-you instead.
Do lenders pay you for introductions?
No. I take nothing of value from any lender, I give nothing to any lender, and there is no co-marketing. I introduce two or three and the client chooses.
Will you text my client?
Not unless they give me their own permission to. You can tell me their number so I can call.
What do you tell the referring agent?
Only what the client allows. The intro email asks them whether I may share how their move is going; they can say no or stop it at any time.
Were you referred to me?
What I received
The agent who referred you sent me your name, how to reach you and what you're looking for, after you agreed to hear from me. Nothing else.
What I share back
Only with your OK: whether we've spoken and how your move is going. Never details of your finances. You can change your mind at any time.
How to stop it
Use the link in my intro email, or call or text (252) 632-8681. I won't text you unless you ask me to.
Working with a real estate agent
When we first talk about buying or selling, I'll go over North Carolina's Working With Real Estate Agents disclosure (questions and answers). Until you sign an agency agreement, I don't represent you.
Your choice
Saved
Thank you. Your choice is recorded.
Received an intro email from me? Its two links bring you back here to say whether I may update the agent who referred you, or to stop contact about the referral.
